[Details/Reserve]

The Sands Point Preserve, located on the grounds of the former Guggenheim estate, is home to a number of historic mansions—the Hempstead House, Castle Gould, and Falaise. The estate was the model for East Egg in “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Castle Gould is a copy of Ireland's Kilkenny Castle, and Falaise is in the style of a 13th-century Norman manor house. Now a 216-acre park, visitors may tour the mansions—with their interesting architectural details, antiques, furnishings, and art, and explore the property, which includes rose gardens, many trails, and access to the beach, though swimming is not permitted. Some tours are self-guided, others not—please check the website for details.
