The Garvies Point Museum & Preserve is located along Hempstead Harbor on the North Shore of Long Island. The Nassau County Museum of Art is located on the grounds of the former 145-acre Frick Estate in Roslyn Harbor, NY. The museum presents rotating exhibitions in its Georgian-style mansion that anchors the institution. In addition, there a sculpture garden, formal garden, and walking trails on the property. The permanent collection of more than 600 pieces is focused on 19th and 20th century American and European art. These include works by Pierre Bonnard, Auguste Rodin, Édouard Vuillard, Chaim Gross, Moses Soyer, Larry Rivers, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella, and George Segal. Among the artists represented in the sculpture garden are Fernando Botero, Richard Serra, Mark DiSuvero, and Tom Otterness. The museum is accessible to all visitors and is equipped with both ramps and an elevator. Sensory tool kits designed to provide a multi-sensory museum experience for people with ASD and their families & caregivers are available at the admission desk.

New York Botanical Garden

Established in 1891, the New York Botanical Garden is located in the Bronx in New York City. The 250-acre site, which includes numerous outside gardens and the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory building are home to over one million plants. The International Plant Science Center houses the William & Lynda Steere Herbarium, which contains over seven million specimens, some of which date back three centuries. On the grounds, too, is the LuEsther T. Mertz Library which has over 550,000 physical volumes and 1,800 journal titles of botany-related texts in its collection. In recent years, the New York Botanical Garden has presented numerous art exhibitions. There are a number of dining options and a gift shop on the premises.

The Charles II-style mansion, built in 1906 and furnished with fine English antiques, decorative arts, and art from the time of the original family in residence—including a John Singer Sargent painting—is open for self-guided tours. The grounds include 200 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes. There is a café on the premises.

The Sands Point Preserve, located on the grounds of the former Guggenheim estate, is home to a number of historic mansions—the Hempstead House, Castle Gould, and Falaise. The estate was the model for East Egg in “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Castle Gould is a copy of Ireland's Kilkenny Castle, and Falaise is in the style of a 13th-century Norman manor house. Now a 216-acre park, visitors may tour the mansions—with their interesting architectural details, antiques, furnishings, and art, and explore the property, which includes rose gardens, many trails, and access to the beach, though swimming is not permitted. Some tours are self-guided, others not—please check the website for details.
